UK supermarket ASDA have announced that they're going to start doing a range of budget wedding clothes through their George brand. They're promising to have wedding dresses for as low as £60 and grooms outfits for £40, and even a pair of bridesmaid dresses for just £56.
Rightly, ASDA say this is because they keep hearing about people who are put off by the enormous costs of weddings in the UK, where the average cost is around £20,000, and although it's easy to scoff and say that you'd never be seen in a £60 wedding dress, anything that helps bring wedding costs down for somebody has to be a good thing.
If you're trying to keep your own costs down, don't underestimate the power of the supermarket. It's always worth taking a look to see if they can provide you with a lot of the smaller items whose costs can add up, such as confetti, guest books, thank you cards, save the dates or card and envelopes to make your own invitations, cameras for your tables, or even vases, candles and mirrors you can use as a basis for your table decorations. These are the kind of items you'll often find in wedding specialist shops, but which can be much cheaper from these bigger stores.
